In the early 1960s she became synonymous with Miss Jane Marple in a series of four films loosely based on the novels of Agatha Christie. Rutherford, then aged 70, insisted on wearing her own clothes for the part and having her husband appear alongside her.

In Endless Night, Marple meets a charming young man and learns of a gypsy's curse. A country home hosts a series of murders in Greenshaw's Folly.

During her many visits to friends and relatives in other villages, Miss Marple often stumbles upon mysterious murders which she helps solve.

The Miss Marple who was nosy, and would listen at doorways. But overall the McKenzie Marple episodes are better. The writing and set design are more solid, and McKenzie's Marple is physically closer to the written Marple, as well as being more loving and kinder. I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and I love this show.
